IPNEWS DESK: It is alleged that, an indigenous Marma girl (16), student of Khagrachari Mohilla College was gang raped by three Tripura persons at Shilachara Waterfall of no.3 Ward Bagan of no.3 Golabari Union Parishad under Khagrachari Sadar Upazila on 12 September 2024 at around 3.30 pm. The perpetrators are-(1) Tutul Tripura (45) son of late Nani Shankar Tripura (2) Royel Tripura (35) son of Shankar Tripura and (3) Khageshwar Tripura (36) son of Shova Tripura. All of them are from Mahalchara of no.3 Ward Bagan of no.3 Golabari Union Parishad under Khagrachari Sadar Upazila.
It’s learnt that, on the incident day the victim along with her friend namely Uchimong Marma (19) son of Mongsaiga Marma from Mahalchara of Khagrachari Sadar Upazila went to Shilachara waterfall. At around 3.30 pm the perpetrators stopped the victim and her friend and snatched away their cell phones by showing knife and threatening them. Afterwards, the accused beat the victim and her friend and demanded for 10 lakhs taka. Later, the culprits released the victim friend to bring the money. Shortly, Uchimong Marma informed the matter to the parents of the victim. Upon hearing the news, the parents of the victim along with others came to the spot. When the victim was rescued, she informed her parents that she was gang raped against by the three perpetrators during the absence of her friend.
Among the perpetrators, Royel Tripura and Khageshwar Tripura managed to ran away and Tutul Tripura was caught and beaten by the locals. After that, when the conditions of Tutul Tripura was serious, they informed the matter to the police and later the police admitted Tutul Tripura to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital where the victim was also admitted and her friend was given first aid.
Victim’s father submitted a complainant with Khagrachari Police Station on 13 September 2024. The case no is 8 and was registered under clause 9(3) of prevention of violence against women and children act 2000(amended) in 2020 and 323/345/379/506 penal code 1860.
Sammilito Adibasi Chatro Somaj organized a protest rally on 14 September 2024 at 3pm in Shapla Chattar of Khagrachari Sadar demanding the arrest and exemplary punishment of the perpetrators.
The two other perpetrators are still at large till the report.
